I take Mama as being a very simple, realistic minded person (simple as in, Why mature a porch light on if no one is external to ingestion it?, versus the more diminished intelligence version). I think Mama was correct in questioning why Dee wanted so badly to have the quilts, as she stated in the story, I didnt want to bring up how I had offered Dee (Wangero) a quilt when she went away to college.
