her inability to buy Jim a marvelous Christmas present. She is to a fault sacrificing, as she is willing to deracination off her most beautiful feature, her long hair to work money for a present for Jim. Jim is described quite succinctly but just as clearly. He is described by Della as similar to the watch fob she purchases for him, "It was like him. quietness and value the description applied to both" (O. Henry 2004, 2).

Jim is also willing to sacrifice as he goes without proper costume in winter so they can sustain a living. He is also magnanimous and genuinely in love with Della. We see this when she is afraid he might not like her because she has cut off her hair and he says, "I don't remember there's anything in the way of a haircut or a crop or a shampoo that could make me like my missy any less" (O. Henry 2004, 3).
