Both Martin Luther world power Jr. and Henry David Thoreau are known for being American rebels that fought against matters of injustice during their respective eras (Newfield, 2004). Thoreau was interested in events of his day and this is reflected in his refusal to pay taxes that would booster fund the Mexican war (Andrews, 1997). Thoreau felt the Mexican War was unjustified despite it being endorsed by the state.
