The Australian author, Tim Winton, identifies the qualities of experience-son relationships, in the short story, A Blow, A Kiss. Winton represents two ideas of fetchs (both positive and negative representations). The author uses conventions such as the plot, settings and characters, which he uses to shape thorough, langu maturate and storey of view, to communicate to the readers the representations of, father-son relationships and a coming of age experience.
The story deals with a coming of age experience for a young boy, Albie, which opens his eyes when he comes into conflict with a situation, where he experiences a different form of a relationship between father and son.

In the text, some fathers ar represented as loving and caring towards their sons, encouraging us to suppose that they are better fathers. We are encouraged to believe this because the text is structured in Albies point of view, enabling us to read his thoughts and feelings toward his father therefore the reader sees this as a positive father-son representation. An example of where this is suggested is when Albie states that he felt those knuckles on his cheek… that was how God would touch someone. We also see how Albies father expresses his love towards him by worrying for his safety, hugging him and touching him in a loving nurturing way. The text also gives us the impression that Albies father is good, by comparing him to a father character that is seen as negative in Albies point of view. Albies point of view encourages the reader to take into consideration of his fathers actions, which is what a father should be like and that this representation of fathers is what is pass judgment in todays society.
