To Kill a mockingbird by Harper Lee, is a fine example of a novel in which the setting in time and localisation has a major conflict of our understanding and appreciation of the events which company in the novel. The novel is set in a atrophied town in Alabama in the 1930s, based upon the experiences the agent has witness throughout her life, where she witnessed all in a atrophied town; class division, racism and prejudice. These key themes are accentuate through certain characters known to us as gobbler Robinson, Aunt Alexandra and Boo Radley.

The novel is set during the 1930s in Maycomb (a small isolated town in Alabama), which from our background acquaintance gives us a deeper understanding of the societys ways of life story and opinions within the book. Before the 1930s America was mob to corruption and brutal fighting from the Civil War; northward America and South America was in physical disputes as both disagreed with one and other. South America was built upon fractious labour and black slavery was a major impact of their success. However, with this a civil war broke out as North America disagreed with slavery. North America won this strife resulting in the south having to release their slaves.



Many people living in the South after the war still held grudges and disagreed on race equality, and from this the community of interests of Maycomb remained divided. In To Kill a Mockingbird, we see a major divide in the community and judgements on one man in particular ( gobbler Robinson) for secret code more and nothing less than the colour of his skin. During the novel turkey cock Robinson is accused of maliciously raping a young white adult female (Mayella). All of the towns population came to a halt as individually individual was glued on the court case of Tom Robinson, as Tom had a white lawyer who was soundly known and respected throughout the community defending him and it was his article against a white womans.
